Join us for Dyslexia Hill Day in Frankfort
March 21st
Please join us at Dyslexia Hill Day on March 21, 2018. We will have a table set up in the Capital Annex to spread information about Dyslexia. YOU can help us make a difference. House Bills 187 & 367 are at a stand still right now. Our legislators need to hear from us about how important these bills are. come to Frankfort, work the table, schedule meetings with representatives on the hill. Let's make our voices heard!!

Join us as we host Meier @ Barlow Law Firm's first of a six-part series: Special Education Clinic - Advocacy Toolkit
Meier & Barlow Law Firm is generously providing this to our families at no cost. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to attend to learn how to be a stronger, more effective advocate for loved ones who are struggling in school.
February 21 - IEP Toolkit: Preparing for ARC meetings
Walk through a sample IEP document to learn what each box means and how to apply common scenarios to each box. Learn how to prepare for ARC meetings with the information you’ve prepared at the ready.
Gateway College, Edgewood Campus Room: E210, Active Learning Room
(located in the Student Services Center)
Time: 6:30PM – 8PM (doors open at 6:00PM)
Seating is limited to 28 attendees

Decoding Dyslexia Kicks Off Three Days of Dyslexia Events in Washington, DC With #SayDyslexia Rally - Dyslexia Advocates Convene on National Mall to Celebrate Dyslexia Progress Nationwide
Cold Spring, Kentucky (7/10/2016) Washington, D.C. -- On Monday, July 11, from 3pm-5pm, dyslexia advocates from across the USA will convene at the United States Capitol in DC for the inaugural #sayDyslexia Awareness Rally. The Rally kicks off 3 days of dyslexia events and celebrations that include a Dyslexia Youth Advocacy Camp, a book signing by Ameer Baraka, a Senate Luncheon on Breaking the School to Prison Pipeline, a Dyslexia Congressional Reception and a symposium in the House of Representatives that focuses on "What You Need to Know About Dyslexia." DOWNLOADABLE ITINERARY -- Itinerary contains registration links.
The #sayDyslexia Week of Advocacy furthers local and national progress spurred by the national Decoding Dyslexia grassroots organization present in all 50 states. Decoding Dyslexia members include parents, teachers, advocates and organizations whose combined efforts have led to legislative, regulatory and policy progress.
In addition to local advocacy victories resulting in more than 30+ state laws, the #sayDyslexiaRally and subsequent events will continue to bring awareness and celebrate the momentum in Congress. This momentum will help dyslexia advocates continue efforts to bring equity and fairness to students with dyslexia who attend public schools.

- Two new federal laws on dyslexia:
- ESSA: Comprehensive Literacy Centers for Students with Specific Learning Disabilities/Dyslexia , House & Senate Education Committees, Sen. Cassidy. Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Literacy Centers focuses on identifying, developing and delivering information to educators and parents to better meet the needs of students who may struggle with reading, writing, language processing, comprehension or executive functioning due to a disability like dyslexia; and,
- HR 3033: The Read Act: Research Grants for Dyslexia, the READ Act which provides funding to the National Science Foundation for research on dyslexia and includes early identification of children and students with dyslexia, professional development for teachers and administrators of students with dyslexia, curricula and educational tools needed for children with dyslexia, and implementation and scaling of successful models of dyslexia intervention.

- Congressional Dyslexia Hearings: House: The Science of Dyslexia; House: Dyslexia and the Need to Read ~ Senate: Understanding Dyslexia

The KY-IDA is made up of dedicated professionals and parents working to change the outcome of students with Dyslexia.
Dyslexia is a learning difference that impacts a person's ability to read, write, and spell and makes up approximately twenty percent of our population.
